ElderDerm 2024: A Recap
Our inaugural ElderDerm 2024 conference was a great success, with 73 attendees (of 110 registrants) from across the region, including physicians, advanced care providers, residents and medical students. The conference has been featured on several media outlets, including Medscape (Dermatoporosis in Older Adults: A Condition That Requires Holistic, Creative Management, Managing Skin Cancer in an Aging Population: Rethinking the Role of ‘Gold Standard’ Surgeries, Oncodermatology: Expert Advice on Rash Diagnosis, Corticosteroid Use During Immune Checkpoint Inhibitor Therapy & Atopic Dermatitis in Older Adults: Common, Unique, and Challenging to Management) and Practical Dermatology. Our feedback from attendees was unanimously positive, resulting in a clear consensus that ElderDerm should become an annual conference. Data from our post-conference survey showed that 100% of respondents reported their knowledge of geriatric dermatology improved after the conference, and 100% of respondents agreed there should be more education in residency programs about geriatric dermatology. Attendees found the most useful topics to be “barriers to care considerations in older adults”, “skin cancer in older adults” and our panel discussions. Here are some photos from our inaugural event:
